University of Balamand

The University of Balamand (UOB) draws on the heritage of the Monastery of Balamand which was built during the Crusades in the 12th century. The modern university was formally established in 1988 through the vision of His Beatitude Ignatius IV, Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, on a land grant on the grounds of the monastery.
